10 Best SEO Companies by Business Type, Vetted by an Agency Founder
10 SEO companies checked on their own sites in October 2026, grouped by the businesses they fit best, with published prices, AI search offers and the checks I use to vet them.

The best SEO company for a local dental group looks very different from the best one for an enterprise retailer or a B2B software company. Each one staffs, prices and reports in its own way. In 2026 each also has to earn mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews alongside rankings.
I run Flying Cat, so I compete with several agencies on this list. I checked each company below on its own website in October 2026 for its services, the businesses it serves, named clients, published prices and location. Where a site leaves something out, I say so. If you sell software, our SaaS SEO agencies list and B2B SEO agencies list go deeper.
How I vet an SEO company
I have hired, replaced and worked alongside SEO teams for more than 15 years. These are the checks I would want a prospect to run on Flying Cat.
They work with businesses like yours
Ask for two clients with your business model, size and sales motion. A franchise with 500 locations needs local pages and listings at scale. An online store needs product and category pages that convert. A B2B company needs pages that win a buying committee.
They report on revenue and leads
Ask for a sample monthly report. Sales, leads, booked calls or demo requests should lead it, with traffic and rankings as supporting signals. Each number should tie back to a definition in your analytics or CRM that you can check yourself.
They measure AI visibility across a defined prompt set
AI answers change from one run to the next, so one screenshot proves little. Ask how many prompts the company tracks, how often each runs and across which assistants. We run each client prompt about 75 to 80 times a month across eight AI assistants.
They name who does the work
Ask who sets your strategy, who writes the content and how many accounts that person carries. Large companies staff accounts with a strategist and specialists, which suits teams that want many channels in one place. Boutiques put a senior lead on each account.
Their contract terms match your plan
Terms range from month to month to a 12-month start. Ask what the company delivers each month, such as pages, refreshes, links or placements, before you compare prices.
